The Children of Queen Victoria
This lecture was created for a conference at Kronberg on the life of Empress Frederick. Hugo tells the varied stories of each of the nine children of Queen Victoria, Empress Frederick - with her problems with the Kaiser and Bismarck - Edward VII - the wayward Prince of Wales who became an expansive and diplomatic monarch - the naval Duke of Edinburgh who became Duke of Coburg - Prince Arthur - the long-lived Duke of Connaught - the haemophiliac Prince Leopold, Duke of Albany - and the princesses, Alice of Hesse, Helena (Princess Christian), Louise - the artistic Duchess of Argyll - and Princess Beatrice - kept at home by her mother.
The lecture is well illustrated with images of the princes and princesses at different stages of their lives.
