Hugo Vickers, who has known St George's Chapel well since 1964, tells the story of the chapel through the Kings and Queens, Deans, Canons, architects, organists and benefactors, who have made the chapel what it is today - one of the finest examples of perpendicular architecture in the country, still fulfilling its original mission of service as a religious foundation.

'It was a shrewd idea of the veteran royal writer, Hugo Vickers, to mark the 660th anniversary of the foundation of both the Order of the Garter and of the College of St George (as St George's should technically be know) to bring out a combined historical and architectural volume. In fact, it turns out to be more historical than architectural, though it contains a full quotient of dazzling photographs taken by the author's wife.
